LASH CARE

Hello my loves! Here is a little video to help you with understanding how to wash your lash extensions. It is so important to do this at least 3x per week with a lash shampoo and clean brush. Please check out my website www.maaface.com Thank You!

Lash Extension after care is part of great retention. Follow these simple guidelines for maintaining your extensions:

  • absolutely no mascara of any kind should be applied to your extensions or your natural lashes before an appointment. The oils in mascaras will break down the eyelash glue. The oils in mascara will also fill the cuticles in the natural eyelash and make it very hard for glue to bond to the natural lash. This decreases retention as there is no textured surface for the glue to bond to.

  • be mindful that eyeliner and eyeshadow on your top lid and mascara on your bottom lashes can migrate to your lash line and contribute to the breakdown of the the glue.

  • wash your lash line at least every three days

  • brush daily

  • following these simple guidelines will ensure your extensions will last nicely until your next three week fill

Brushing your eyelash extensions is an important part of lash care. When you brush, always do so from the eyelid to the tips on the TOP of your lashes. Slightly angle your brush to the outside of the eye to get the lashes perfectly in line.

Brushing Your Eyelash Extensions

When brushing your eyelash extensions, make sure you are brushing from the top down as seen in the video. As you brush downward, lightly press your brush into the extensions and roll it downwards. Make sure you are always angling your movements slightly to the outer edge of the eye, in line with the flow of the extensions, to brush the extensions evenly and achieve perfect separation of the individual fibres.

Did you know you should not brush your eyelash extensions when they are wet? Always ensure they are dry. A quick way to do this is to use a hair dryer on the "no heat" setting

Blow Drying Your Lash Extensions

A great hack if you are in a rush and your extensions are wet. Make sure the hair dryer is set on LOW as to avoid excessive heat. Try blow drying for 15- 30 seconds and then brushing out.

How Do I Choose an Eyelash Extension Artist?

The eyelash extension industry is currently unregulated in British Columbia. This means that absolutely anyone can advertise themselves as an eyelash extension artist with absolutely no training. Sounds pretty scary, right? Considering eyelash extensions are applied to your eyes, your fear is well founded.

So… I want eyelash extensions but I don’t know where to go that is safe! Here is a quick checklist to help you decide who is right for you.

πŸ‘ Does your eyelash extension artist wash their hands and wear a mask directly before starting the service?

πŸ‘ Does your eyelash extension artist sanitize their tools in a sanitization tray with CS20? This should be visible to you.

πŸ‘ Does your eyelash extension artist have a dedicated space to do your lashes? Do they allow animals in the space? Animals while lovely and cute can be carriers of fecal bacteria that cause pink eye and should never be allowed in an area where eyelash extensions are being done.

πŸ‘ Is your eyelash extension artist certified? These certifications should be prominently displayed in the workspace. If the artist is not certified, move on. They have not been trained in proper hygiene or application and you are putting yourself at risk for permanent natural eyelash damage or infection.

πŸ‘ Look at your eyelash extension artist’s instagram page or online portfolio. Do the lashes all flow in the same direction in a β€œclean” manner or do they criss cross and look messy? If you are seeing messy lashes the chances are they are all stuck together and will cause you pain and discomfort and possibly long term damage as your natural lashes grow out. Are the extensions applied with a clean amount of glue or do you see a lot of chunks? Are they all placed the same distance from the eyelid?

πŸ‘ If you would like to get volume lashes ask your artist if they use purchased premade fans or if they make their fans themselves. Only highly skilled and well practiced artists are able to make fans themselves and give you a full and beautiful set. If your artist uses purchased premades consider finding someone with a higher skill level so you can be sure you are getting the highest quality possible. Often prices do not reflect skill level as it costs significantly more money to purchase premade fans rather than make them with individual eyelash extensions.

πŸ‘ Do you LIKE your lash extension artist? Your artist has to love what they do in order to perform an outstanding service for you. If you feel rushed or that you are being treated impersonally reconsider if you want to trust your eyes to this person.
